CERTIFICATION

The national respiratory educator examinations are administered by CNAC - Canadian Network for Asthma Care and held annually, the first Saturday in November. There are a number of writing centers across the country. For more information on the examinations please refer to the CNAC website at www.cnac.net. The CNAC learning objectives are reviewed and updated regularly. It is the educator's responsibility to ensure that they are practicing according to current objectives.

  • Individuals who successfully complete the Education Module AND theAsthma Management Module (AsthmaTrec©) are eligible to write the national Certified Asthma Educator (CAE) examination. Individuals who work exclusively in pediatric asthma may wish to pursue the CAE designation only.
  • Individuals who successfully complete both the Asthma Management Module and COPD Management Module along with the Educator Module are eligible to write the Certified Respiratory Educator (CRE) examination.
  • Individuals who are current CAEs and complete the COPD ManagementModule are eligible to write the "COPD-only" examination. If successful the Certified Respiratory Educator (CRE) designation will apply.

Fee schedule for certification exams:

  • Certified Respiratory Educator (CRE) examination: $450 ($100 application fee and $350 exam fee)
  • Certified Asthma Educator (CAE) examination: $450 ($100 application fee and $350 exam fee)
  • "COPD-only" examination: $250 ($100 application fee and $150 exam fee)
  • Examinations are administered by CNAC (Canadian Network for Asthma Care) www.cnac.net. Please see website for future announcements regarding the examinations.
